BCFC - Fabric of the City

The challenge: create a kit launch video for a football club, inspired by Peaky Blinders, with a group of inexperienced players and only a week to complete it.

We received the brief on a Thursday and did a recce of "Back to Backs" in Birmingham the next day to understand how we'd capture the series’ aesthetic. To navigate our tight timeline, the weekend was spent developing a flexible "shot map" that allowed us to adapt quickly if any shot took too long.

A major hurdle was the players’ limited availability; we initially had just two hours for the entire group. After much persuading, we secured three hours in total by splitting the players into two sets for better time management.

When shooting began, the players wore their Peaky Blinders costumes, focusing first on dramatic 'Reservoir Dogs' style walks to camera, before changing into the new kit to capture their football skills. We captured essential shots with both groups and made sure our filming stayed cohesive despite working out of sequence.

Unexpectedly, our video went viral after being shared by LadBible, receiving very positive feedback. A big highlight was praise from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight himself.

What pleases me most about this project is effective collaboration and resourcefulness in a tight turn-around. I’m proud of what we accomplished through planning and teamwork, and I extend special thanks to my crew for their dedication.
